Here’s your chance to check out Microsoft’s insane HoloLens tech in Wilmington

On Wednesday, March 22, the world of mixed reality is getting a new meetup group in Wilmington. Sponsored by Capital One, the group aims to link up developers, designers, researches, 3D modelers and loads more with a shared focus on “the creation of Mixed Reality applications and solutions.” Mixed reality is a blend of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), two increasingly hot topics in the tech industry.
Meetup co-organizer Larry Strange reached out to us about the event. He told us that each meetup will include the potential for one-on-one time with a Microsoft HoloLens, the company’s mixed reality hardware. He pointed to a Seattle-based meetup focused on mixed reality development for Microsoft HoloLens and the Windows Holographic Platform.
“Our goals for the Meetup are modest,” Strange explained. “We would like to use this as a way to facilitate robust interaction and cross pollination between creative and development AR/VR/MR professionals in the Mid-Atlantic geography – that would include Baltimore/DC and Philly.”
He continued:

“While the HoloLens is clearly a significant part of this conversation we are looking at the full ecosystem –  Windows Mixed Reality headset manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and 3Glasses, development partners like Unity and Vuforia, and the many creative design and development agencies that are starting to ramp up their expertise in Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality technologies. With several new books being published on this topic I would expect authors to be part of our future meetings as well.”

The Wilmington meetup will start on March 22 with a gathering that will decide future topics and speakers. Strange told us that the community will inform the exact shape of the meetup’s content.
