I’d assume everyone in Delaware knows about Dogfish Head’s beer. They were making craft brews before craft brews were cool, and the brewery does the state proud as it continues to excel on the national stage.
I found myself in Boston over the weekend for the Extreme Beer Fest put on by industry outlet Beer Advocate. The biggest sponsor of the event? Dogfish. The biggest booth on the festival’s show floor? Dogfish.

That’s right, taking center stage at the show, being a force on the floor space and dominating conversation with their distinct beverages was one of Delaware’s most original startups. They brought seven beers to their booth, and most were kicked by the end of each tasting session. Flesh & Blood IPA was my favorite on the board, and it’s one of the three brews the company’s now shipping in cans.
Dogfish Head was founded in 1995, it’s headquartered in Milton and it’s one of the biggest and most famous independent breweries in the world.
Dogfish Head’s influence on our region’s little brewing industry is impossible to ignore. Delaware has tons of small, wonderful breweries like Mispillion, Bellefonte, Blue Earl, 3rd Wave and loads more (like the newest entrant, Nick Matarese’s Dew Point Brewing). Dogfish helped put the state on the map for craft beer, and that entrepreneurial industry continues to grow with Delaware on the forefront.

Dogfish remains the biggest sponsor of the Extreme Beer Fest in Boston. They’re not done, though. Beer Advocate announced last fall that Dogfish Head is helping them put on an Extreme Beer Fest in California on December 9, 2017. The EBF is spreading, and Dogfish is the only named sponsor so far.
