The coworking company previously known as UberOffices announced Thursday that it’s now called MakeOffices.
The rebranding seems like a smart move given that “UberOffices” is a name a little too close for comfort to the (completely unaffiliated) ridesharing giant Uber.
The name change comes at a time of rapid expansion for UberO… er, MakeOffices. The company that launched in the DMV area now boasts 15 locations locally and nationally — either currently running or in development.
Rest assured that the new name in no way changes the company’s mission. “Our mission still remains the same: to provide entrepreneurs and innovators with innovative spaces, great services, a vibrant community, and affordable lease options to grow their businesses,” the company said in a statement.
There is a hidden piece of branding in the new name, though. As the statement goes on to say, “we want you to have a space that you love and that you can ultimately make your own.”
Sneaky.
