New VP at Philly Chamber is a tech industry pro

Jason Bannon recently left his role as VP of marketing and communications at Ben Franklin Technology Partner of Southeastern PA after 10 years with the organization. He’s joining the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia as its new senior vice president of marketing and communications.

For Bannon, his work is all about building relationships and “soft connections.” This move came from Bannon’s wanting to expand on that collaboration work and bring it to Philly’s wider business community,

Civil rights meets networking at this conference

National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) is the young adult version of the historic civil rights organization Urban League, which focuses on financial empowerment for Black Americans and other underserved communities.

The 5th Annual NULYP Eastern Regional Conference, also known as #bEastCon, will take place from April 26 to 28 in Wilmington Delaware. It’s civil rights meets networking and professional development and will introduce young professionals to Wilmington.

News Incubator: What else to know today

• Philadelphia is partnering with the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund to focus on racial wealth equity and Black Philadelphians as part of the CityStart Initiative, a program that provides tools to help communities become financially stable. [CFE Fund]

• Plymouth Meeting-based Harmony Biosciences agreed to pay French  pharmaceutical company Bioprojet $25.5 million for the rights to a potential new treatment for narcolepsy. The deal could end up being worth $393 million. [Philly Biz Journal/Technical.ly]

• Hilco Redevelopment Partners started installing concrete panels for the first buildings in the Bellwether District, a forthcoming innovation and manufacturing campus at the former PES Refinery site. The South Philly development project launched in October and HRP expects to start structural steel construction later this month. [PR Newswire]

• Happy first birthday to the Philly Tech Calendar! Creator Joe Woods started the project as a tool to spread the word about meetups post-pandemic and bring the local tech community together. [Joe Woods Blog/Technical.ly]
