As part of a months-long technology investment strategy, local company General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) just launched an innovation center in Falls Church, Virginia.
GDIT, a local arm of aerospace and defense company General Dynamics, opened the center at its headquarters in Northern Virginia. According to the company, this is only its latest expansion of research and development labs across the US supporting government missions.
“Our customers’ needs have evolved, and they require innovation much faster,” said Amy Gilliland, GDIT’s president, in a written statement. “We have increased investments in our Digital Consulting Practice and expanded R&D to ensure we remain at the forefront of technology advancements. This new innovation center will facilitate collaboration and accelerate solution development for agency missions.”
GDIT will use the facility in a number of ways, including:
- Demonstrating the company’s digital accelerator solutions for customers, which include commercial technologies in AI and machine learning, cyber, cloud computing and 5G developments.
- Collaborating with partners and customers for prototype development and proof of concepts.
- Showcasing new technology, like GDIT’s Raven mobile command center for mission-critical information
The 6,200-square-foot facility is part of a larger effort in tech investment from GDIT. Its technology investment strategy, launched in May, included developing a portfolio of digital accelerators, expanding its R&D and commercial partnership programs, and upskilling its workforce.
On top of this center, GDIT opened R&D labs in St. Louis, Missouri and plans to launch another in New Jersey later this year. In Falls Church, the company also created the Cyber Emerge lab, as well as facilities for 5G and biometrics.
