WHO’S GETTING BUZZ

School is back in session at the University of Delaware and students now have a new digital tool to feel safer on campus. The university launched LiveSafe, a smartphone safety app. The goal: to prevent crime and respond more quickly to incidents. The app modernizes communications between safety officials and students by leveraging smartphone technologies like GPS-location, camera and texting.
Two Delaware startups are gearing up to take part in DreamIt Ventures’ Philly accelerator program. Technical.ly Philly highlighted the 12 companies selected, including two from The First State — MUNI-Tech and Nfoshare. We’ve covered both before: read more here and here.
Cashless parking is trending in Delaware, according to The News Journal. Communities such as Rehoboth Beach, Newark and Wilmington are utilizing newer technologies — like smartphone apps and electronic meters. At Rehoboth Beach, drivers can use a smartphone app that allows them to refill a meter from their device, rather than trekking back to the car with a handful of quarters. In Newark, officials are experimenting with similar smartphone technology and currently use electronic meters on Main Street. In Wilmington, most meters have coin and credit card options for drivers.

WHO’S GETTING FUNDED

InterDigital Inc. recently announced its sponsorship of the Delaware Children’s Museum Junior Engineers Program. The goal of the program is to inspire children to “explore, discover, and celebrate the power of their potential through interactive experiences in an environment that integrates and stimulates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics,” according to a release.
