Chester County recently opened a biopharma business incubator in hopes of cultivating biotech innovation along the “Route 202 Corridor,” Newsworks reported last week.

Newsworks reports that Pennsylvania’s life-sciences sector has shrunk since 2008, with about 5,000 fewer jobs or a six percent drop. The new incubator, a project between the  nonprofit Chester County Economic Development Council and real estate firm the Hankin Group, is a push to hold on to biotech jobs in the region.

The incubator’s first tenant will be biopharmaceutial startup Transig. Transig CEO Doug Pippin told Newsworks he was drawn to the incubator, housed in a former Johnson & Johnson research labs, because of its low cost and its pre-equipped facilities.
