To really get a sense of the spirit of the 2014 NYC First Lego League 2014 event at NYU-Poly, which we covered in detail previously, it helps to see the action both in competition and on the sidelines.
Teams spread out all over a cafeteria and other available spaces, working on their presentations, practicing with their robots and dancing. There was quite a bit of dancing.
These groups took up more space with their practice because they had to spread out their simulated disaster areas. Ben Esner, Director of Poly’s Center for K12 STEM Education, explained that these disaster areas are designed by game experts with NYC First, in cooperation with the engineers at Lego, who find ways to make precisely the plastic brick creations necessary to simulate the challenges.
