PTW21 is almost here.
As someone new to the Philly Tech Week experience, I am overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of buzz and excitement surrounding the series. Our list of events is now over 30 and it continues to grow. Where else in the country will you find an intersection of virtual reality, film, cannabis, “Shark Tank,” pop culture, medtech, coding and craft beer?
Last week I highlighted five events we are looking forward to next week and I’m here to share a few more. Philly Tech Week 2021 presented by Comcast is almost entirely online (more info on the in-person event below) and it kicks off Friday, May 7, with our first-ever VR experience, compliments of local startup Agora.
Now, another handful of events to get you pumped about next week:
Tuesday, May 11 — Doing Well and Doing Good: Triple Bottom Line and ESG for Companies of All Sizes
How does your approach to sustainability and social impact affect your ability to attract investment, talent, and customers? In this program from PACT, Cozen O’Connor, RSM and ImpactPHL, we’ll hear from emerging companies, large enterprises, and investors including Azavea, SEI, As You Sow, and Social Venture Circle about the business case for sustainable investment and practices. You learn how to identify and secure mission-aligned capital, how to assess your sustainable investment report card, and how to “invest your values” as a company (and as an individual).
Register hereWednesday, May 12 — Philly Startup Leaders Entrepreneur Expo
If you are into entrepreneurship, this event is the Hall & Oates of Philly Tech Week: It will make your dreams come true. Entrepreneur Expo is the largest annual showcase of startups and technology companies in the Philadelphia region. The virtual-first hybrid event will include live panel discussions, fireside chats and TED-style talks as well as opportunities for networking.
Register hereWednesday, May 12 — WURD on Tech
This event features our first and only truly multimedia experience. WURD host Charles Ellison will be moderating a discussion on how the technology and innovation sector move Philadelphia’s Black community from cycles of generational poverty to generational wealth. The all-star panel includes Tayyib Smith, Sherrell Dorsey, Stephanie Humphrey and Sylvester Mobley. The conversation will be aired live on 96.1FM, 900AM in Philadelphia and heard around the world at wurdradio.com, WURD TV (YouTube and Facebook) and through the WURD app.
Register hereThursday, May 13 — Introduced by Technical.ly 2021
A perennial highlight of PTW, Introduced by Technical.ly is a one-day virtual conference introducing you to the ideas, people and opportunities that build better companies. More than 500 entrepreneurs, CXOs, people ops leaders, and corporate innovation executives come together for a day of experience, engagement and activation centered around three foundations of business growth: clients, employees, and hometowns.
Register hereThursday, May 13 — Raise a Glass with Flexential
Let’s be honest, people from anywhere within a 45-minute radius claim to be from Philly. Not only does this event have the distinction of being the only PTW event in the ‘burbs (King of Prussia) but it’s also the only in-person, socially distanced event on the docket. Colocation, cloud and hybrid IT provider Flexential invites you to raise a glass for some tech talk with your peers. Join them for a beer, pizza and wings at what this author humbly considerers the best brewery in MontCo, Workhorse Brewing Company. (I recommend the Vienna Lager or New England IPA.)
Register hereSaturday, May 15 — Coffee, Code & Chat
I can’t think of a better way to close PTW than a Saturday morning chat with our friends at Women Who Code. Join them for casual networking, coffee consumption and conversation that will inevitably lead to a recap of the most successful and exciting Philly Tech Week ever (!!!). All are welcome to attend, and encouraged to stop by the event page beforehand and share what’s on your mind in the comments section.
