Happy Friday, folks. We’re skimming our inbox here in Philly for some grants, networking or business development programs that we wouldn’t want you to miss this week.

Be sure to take a look at our April Events Roundup for more meetup-based opportunities, too.

Shuttered Venue Operators Grant

The federal Small Business Administration has announced the creation of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG), which would allow eligible applicants to apply for equal to 45% of their gross earned revenue, with the maximum amount available for a single grant award of $10 million. Live venues, theater producers, performing arts, relevant museums and movie theaters are all eligible.

The program was established by the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Venues Act and amended by the American Rescue Plan Act. It includes more than $16 billion in grants to shuttered venues, to be administered by SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance. Venue or promoters who received a Paycheck Protection Program loan on or after Dec. 27, 2020, will have the SVOG reduced by the amount of the PPP loan. Learn more about the program on the SBA’s website.

Volunteer to support the COVID-19 vaccination effort in Philly

Are you looking for ways to help get vaccines into Philadelphians’ arms? City gov is recruiting volunteers to support the community orgs, medical professionals and FEMA site doing that work by supporting distribution and getting the word out about vaccine availability. These efforts could include volunteering at a site itself or making calls to community members to share information about the vaccines. Learn about volunteer opportunities here.

The City is also sharing info about its Medical Reserve Corp, a group of more than 2,500 medically trained and non-medically trained volunteers who serve the City during public health emergencies and large-scale events.

Philly Startup Leaders community survey

Want to make sure you’re getting the most out of the Philly Startup Leaders community? The org is surveying folks in the startup and entrepreneurship community about what they need and what they want to see in upcoming months.

“Our community is what makes Philly Startup Leaders successful and we want to make sure we are providing valuable programming and facilitating meaningful connections for our community members in the future,” the org says. Take the survey here.

Philadelphia Apprentice Network info session

A new apprenticeship program supported by Philadelphia Works and global professional services company Aon was recently created with the goal of diversifying the business analyst workforce. Sound like something your company could be a part of? Join the orgs for a virtual info session to learn more about the Philadelphia Apprentice Network on April 6. Learn more and register here.

“With the significant impacts of the pandemic, the apprentice model provides opportunities for companies to secure the workforce they need to grow as well as for individuals to shape their future careers,” the event page says. “We will have several special guests and ecosystem partners join us for this discussion and explore ways you can engage locally to support this effort.”

Mini STEM grants for equitable access

School District of Philadelphia teachers have the opportunity to apply for “mini” grants between $1,500 and $2,500 to develop STEM project-based learning experiences year-round with their students, thanks to some funding from GSK. One application is allowed per school, and the mini grant application must serve Black, Latinx and female students by encouraging these students to actively engage in areas of STEM.

Applications for the grants are open through April 9, and awards will be announced May 7. For more information about what is needed to apply and to submit an application, visit The Fund for the SDP’s site.
