Support for women and people of color is still a work in progress in tech. New research conveys how race and gender disparities have affected employees at tech firms across the U.S.
More than 9,000 technologists were surveyed as part of tech hiring platform Dice’s study to better delineate diversity, equity and inclusion issues that tech workers are facing. All were registered Dice job seekers and site visitors during a three-month period at the end of 2020.
Some key takeaways from the survey:
- 57% of technologists surveyed who identify as women have experienced gender discrimination
- 48% of Black technologists have experienced racial discrimination, making them the most likely to encounter it
- Meanwhile, 30% of Hispanic or Latinx technologists, 25% of Asian or Pacific Islander technologists, 23% of Asian Indian technologists and 9% of white technologists said they have experienced racial discrimination
- 37% of women technologists have been “extremely” or “moderately” impressed with their employer’s response to gender diversity and inclusion movements, while 17% of women technologists have not been impressed at all
The survey also covers burnout, compensation, manager satisfaction and more.
