The Timmy Awards, which highlights companies and leaders in D.C. who are working hard to create the best places to work for tech professionals, were held on Thursday, Oct. 25.
Organized by Tech in Motion, the fourth edition of the awards was held at 1776 DC for the first time after being hosted at the 1776 Crystal City location in previous years. This year, there were 60 total nominations, and five or more finalists in each of the four categories. About 200 people were in attendance at the event to celebrate the winners.
The winners and runners-up were determined by 50 percent public voting and 50 percent average judge votes. The judging panel was comprised of Emily Rasowsky, CEO and founder of the Women in Tech Campaign, George Mocharko, producer and host of DC Entrepreneur, and Shahier Rahman, partnership specialist at General Assembly.
The 2018 Timmy Awards Winners are:
- Best Tech Manager: Rochelle Sanchirico, mHelpDesk
- Best Tech Work Culture: Whereoware
- Best Tech Startup: Quorum
- Best Tech Workplace for Diversity: Ostendio
First-Runners up:
- Best Tech Manager: Karle Durante, Custom Ink
- Best Tech Work Culture: Social Tables
- Best Tech Startup: Ritual Technologies
- Best Tech Workplace for Diversity: Mapbox
Krystal Rennie, Tech in Motion event organizer, said that D.C. has a very large, talented and amazing tech community, and she already see’s some improvements to next year’s event she’d like to add.
“The Timmys is a great way to bring the D.C. tech community together and celebrate innovation, creativity and technology,” Rennie said, “As far as improvement, in honor of the fifth year, we hope to feature a fifth award, we are currently accepting suggestions. This would allow us to celebrate more companies!”
