Is this how 3D printing enters the mainstream?

We came across this great video by Brooklyn-based Becky Stern on how to make glowing lanterns out of mason jars, which included a 3D-printed LED circuit and the CAD file for how to print it. The jars, some of which are painted in different colors or have shapes cut out (like a jack o’ lantern) seem like a fun project to make and would upgrade the vibes of whatever room or backyard they find themselves in.

Stern is content creator in Brooklyn on the Instructable platform. Prior to that she worked as the director of wearable electronics at Adafruit and teaches at the School of Visual Arts.

She designed the circuit using the 3D design program Tinkercad, created by Autodesk. It’s a neat application that shows how 3D printing could be a useful or fun hobby, particularly as more objects are designed in the public domain.
