Safeguard Scientifics named its first ever Chief Technology and Innovation Officer (CTIO) in Scott Snyder, who will join the Radnor, Pa.-based venture firm after stepping down as President and Chief Strategy Officer of Mobiquity, a Boston-based mobile consulting firm.
Snyder brings a couple of decades of experience to the table, having worked with Lockheed-Martin since the ’90s. He also has ties to the old-school Philly tech scene by way of Omnichoice, a software company from the dot-com era based in Norristown (which was acquired in 2003).

In a blog post published on Tuesday, Snyder said in his new position he’ll be looking at how the 60-year-old venture firm can explore new technology spaces. He also signaled at strengthening the ties between the firm and the area’s bustling pool of startups.
The Penn grad will also be taking on the roles of Senior VP and Managing Director, but he’s not new to the Safeguard house: Snyder has served on the company’s advisory board since 2006.

“By creating a new position focused on technology and innovation, we are strengthening our ability to lead the next wave of opportunities in an era of continuous digital disruption,” said Safeguard CEO Steve Zarrilli.
Let’s hope Snyder doesn’t mind having a doorless office.

Correction: This article previously listed Scott Snyder as the former President and CEO of Mobiquity; he was actually President and Chief Strategy Officer. (9/19/16, 2:42 p.m.)
