Yellowdig just graduated from 500 Startups and TechCrunch is a fan

Yellowdig wants to be “Slack for education.”

Yellowdig, the startup that wants to be Slack for the classroom, demoed at the 500 Startups demo day this week. (500 Startups is a Silicon Valley accelerator that invests $100,000 for 5 percent equity.) TechCrunch highlighted four of their faves and Yellowdig got a quick shoutout.

They’ve done trials with 7,000 students to date, and hope to be in 100 universities by 2016.

Wharton professor and angel investor Kartik Hosanagar is an advisor to Yellowdig, which has been piloted by MIT and Wharton. The startup was founded by ex-FMC Corporation exec Shaunak Roy, 36. When we last talked to Roy, he spoke of the company as a Reddit for the classroom and it seems like they have since rebranded.
