The San Francisco-based startup raised an undisclosed amount of funding to help it expand to other cities. Philly is the startup’s first East Coast market because of its “great fitness market,” staffer Kim Wong told the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Fitmob is currently partnered with about 30 studios in the area, including studios in the suburbs. The startup pays gyms and studios on a per-visit basis, at a discount, according to TechCrunch.
Fitmob’s current model is a pivot from its original one, launched in early 2014. It was originally focused on connecting users with fitness teachers that weren’t necessarily connected with a studio (think Airbnb for workout classes).
