BioLite previews BaseCamp group camping grill

As of this writing, the BioLite BaseCamp campaign for $45,000 has raised just under $400,000. If we were to rewrite our "five most over-subscribed Brooklyn Kickstarters" post today, this campaign would already move into position #3. It has 24 days to go.

Last Wednesday, BioLite had a friends and supporters barbecue on their roof the day of the launch of their Kickstarter campaign for its newest product: The BaseCamp Stove. The BaseCamp is a version of their HomeStove designed for customers in the camping market.

The company’s Erica Rosen told Technical.ly Brooklyn at the party, “We didn’t know what to expect” with regard to the campaign. Based on the number of rewards they had on offer, it seems like the company felt comfortable the campaign would be successful. Succeeding in about an hour couldn’t have been in the campaign plan.

The BaseCamp is based on the company’s HomeStove, whose extensive prototyping process we discussed here. Here are differences between this model and the HomeStove:

  • Fold out legs.
  • A grill (The HomeStove is more built for pots, but you can also use a pot on the BaseCamp) and larger cooking area
  • More powerful electrical generator
  • A battery
  • An included USB powered light
  • A smart dashboard that shows how hot the fire is and how much electricity is getting generated.

The differences are spelled out in their video, at the bottom.

This is the company’s first Kickstarter campaign, Rosen confirmed.
