They just completed the Verlan Dress, according to Core77, just as New York City gets taken over by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The workshop’s final dress consists of design elements from the two dresses, made by teams within the workshop, chosen by a panel of expert judges to discuss the participants’ 3D printed creations. The whole workshop was involved in the final design.
The workshop was called New Skins 2013: Computational Design for Fashion. It started with 3D scanning of the model (shown above) and went through design and fabrication, exploring the potential for computational design in making wearable creations. Throughout the workshop, students used MakerBot printers to create prototypes and final designs.
The workshop was led by Frances Bitonti Studio as well as Pratt Faculty.
