Opera Philadelphia had “social media seats” at the opening of its latest show, Ainadamar. The seats were specifically for people who would tweet during the performance.

The social media move isn’t surprising, given David Devan‘s energetic leadership. The Opera Philadelphia director spoke at Ignite Philly in 2012 about how he wanted to create community through opera.

The Philadelphia Orchestra, too, has taken to Twitter to reach a new audience.
