In Philly, you can pay your city taxes online, but only if you have Internet Explorer.
Councilman Bill Green wants to change that.
Yesterday, Green introduced a bill requiring all city websites to be compatible with several other popular browsers  like Chrome, Firefox and Safari.
“It’s a shame we have to have a bill for this,” said Green, a predicted mayoral candidate for 2015.
Since championing paperless government early in his council career and introducing in April 2011 a wide-ranging government transparency plan, neither of which found much traction in council, Green has seen Mayor Nutter land an Open Data Executive Order.
Pointing out the inflexibility of Phila.gov is a long-running joke among many around city services, so this legislation could be seen as a small way by Green to remind how many city IT basics are left undone.
