A local networking software company wants to give people the ability to use multiple Internet connections to make the Internet faster — but first, it needs some help from the public.
Connectify, the Center City-based company that developed software that could turn a Windows 7 PC into a wireless hotspot and saw international success, recently launched a Kickstarter for its product, Connectify Dispatch.
Connectify CEO Alex Gizis said through a spokeswoman that the product is “roughly integrated” into its hotspot software, but the Kickstarter funds would allow the company to create a standalone product.

For a company that has taken funding from private investment firms in the past, why crowdfund?
Gizis says he wants to prove the demand for the product. It’s also been a handy marketing tool, he adds, as Dispatch has been featured on blogs like TechCrunch and GigaOM.
With 17 days left to go, Connectify has raised nearly half its goal with pledges surpassing $21,000 out of its $50,000 goal.
Gizis, 39, grew up in Manhasset, N.Y. and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He now lives in Society Hill.
