By now you’ve heard the hype — a total solar eclipse is coming Monday, Aug. 21, and from here in Delaware, a partial eclipse will dim the sky from about 1:20 to 4:00 p.m.
You also know — we hope — that you have to wear special “eclipse glasses” that resemble old-timey 3D movie glasses if you want to watch the solar eclipse without causing permanent eye damage. We repeat: Don’t stare into the sun.
You can buy eclipse glasses online, but be careful. Amazon just recalled counterfeit eclipse glasses sold on its marketplace.
A safer (free!) alternative? Your local library.
New Castle County Libraries are giving out the glasses for free this week. Grab a pair and watch the eclipse from your office, or join one of the viewing parties at Kirkwod Library, Garfield Park Library or Brandywine Hundred Library.
