Want to learn how to pilot a drone responsibly? You may be in luck. DroneCast wants to teach you.
The year-old Philadelphia advertising startup, which uses quadcopters to tote branded content through the air, recently launched a new program catered towards enthusiasts looking to learn how to operate a drone.
Through DroneCast’s “Partner Program,” anyone can eventually become a paid pilot. According to DroneCast Social Media Director Dan Marcel (who, full disclosure, was a Technical.ly Philly intern last fall), the startup has Delaware in its crosshairs.
“[Pilots] have their own DroneCast drone which we build in-house, they have all the banners and all the tools and they go through training exercises,” said Marcel. “We handle all the insurance and clientele. The pilots just fly.”
According to this marketing video, recent DroneCast clients include Ford Motors and Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design.

As of now, the Federal Aviation Administration’s drone regulations are — well, loose, to say the least. With its new program, DroneCast hopes to spread proper piloting protocol to the masses.
“This partner program creates an educated community of responsible drone users, first and foremost,” said Marcel. “We want to create a community and workforce that is both highly trained and able to educate people.”
Marcel said operating in Delaware, where the only restrictions are in state parks, is not an issue.
