What is the blockchain? And how can it help entrepreneurs?
If you’ve ever asked those questions, the MIT Enterprise Forum of DC and Baltimore has an event for you. (Also: Our sister site Technically Brooklyn has answered the blockchain question quite well, if we do say so ourselves. Plus, here’s a primer on Ethereum, the dominant blockchain platform of the moment. Blockchain is big in Brooklyn.)
On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the MIT Enterprise Forum is organizing Emerging Cybersecurity Tech: BLOCKCHAIN, taking place from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 pm. The event is sponsored by Women in Housing and Finance and the George Washington University (GWU) School of Business and will be held in GWU’s Marvin Center.
There is a price tag, though: tickets are $100 in advance or $115 at the door. (Discounts are available for members of Women in Housing and Finances.)

The evening will feature a host of cybersecurity, legal and regulatory experts. Kicking off the evening’s program will be McLean, Va.-based money services business advisor and anti-money laundering specialist Carol van Cleef.
Cleef will be followed by a panel of experts, such as cybersecurity and financial crime expert, Samantha Pelosi of the D.C.-based Bankers Association for Finance and Trade. Also on the panel will be anti-money laundering expert Jonathan Levin, cofounder of New York-based Chainalysis and former CEO of Coinmetrics, and New York-based blockchain researcher Tone Vays from LibertyLifeTrail.
For more details, check out WIHF’s event page.
Blockchain is on the rise here in D.C. We recently told you about an educational cryptocurrency betting pool and 1776’s new blockchain incubator.
