The Crown Prince of Denmark cut the ribbon for the Urban Future Lab’s “House of Green” exhibition on the NYU-Poly campus. That’s all he did.

First, the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen spoke to the importance of cities showing leadership, along with a few words from the NYCEDC and the Confederation of Danish Industry, and then Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, Count of Monpezat, RE, SKmd, (yep, that’s his title) cut the ribbon without saying a word.

The room was full of both Danish visitors and locals, including many of the companies working from the space.

Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Frank Jensen, put the event in the context of the People’s Climate March and commitments he and other mayors have made to sustainability. Copenhagen is on track to become a carbon neutral city. “As mayors, we must create livability for our citizens,” Jensen said, citing the C40 network of cities as an important benchmark of progress toward that end.

The House of Green exhibition is meant to serve as a showcase for the clean technology that Danish companies have expertise in deploying. There will also be staff on site at the Urban Future Lab for the next several months, for helping to advise American entities on the sort of renewable and sustainable products and services they might be able to attain from Danish companies.

This is the second time this year we’ve seen Northern Europe pitching its wares here. The Netherlands was the first-ever guest country at this year’s Northside Festival.
