They’ve got scanners, copiers, shipping systems, a library and even an architect quality plotter. They even do the dishes. Brooklyn Creative League’s spacious facilities in Gowanus are home to all kinds of professionals.
The space now occupies two large spaces within its building. Several early-stage tech ventures are working from within the space now. We profiled Bonusly from the space last week and will have some more of the member companies on here soon. A couple other projects we saw, in brief:
- Dave Pappas gave us a preview of Guns In America. It’s a side project for Pappas, who is a creative director for hire. Pappas got early insight on the site, meant to be a mediated forum on America’s armory, at the space’s Open Studio, a time for members to share ideas with each other.
- Ethan Worrel, founder at Entermedia, is taking a new approach to web development for hire. He left the creative side of the business and focus only on the technical. This allows them to come in often as subcontractors to the designers and help them understand the true cost of their ideas before they are deep enough in the design that they can’t turn back. Most of Worrel’s company is in Austin, where it was founded, but he’s finding with him here in New York, he can reach out to a broader array of potential clients.
BCL has several levels of membership available, including full, private offices suitable for several people. It also has work station set up in individual cubicles. Some of these go to full time members and some go to part time members.
How part time membership in coworking spaces work is often one of the key distinguishing features of these sorts of institutions. BCL has a very precise approach. When a member uses a workstation on a part time basis, they can actually reserve that space online for specific hours.
There is also a “virtual office” option that gives a couple hours per month of access to conference rooms and access to community events and the private members only website.
Here are some photos we took of the space:
