Social impact app maker MilkCrate is getting a boost from a local funder supporting free app development for three nonprofits.

The Douty Foundation, which funds Philadelphia- and Montgomery County-based grassroots organizations working in education, is funding the building of three apps in the next year, “with the hope to explore future additional nonprofit app sponsorship if there is interest and demand,” said Douty Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Leith in a statement.

“We recognize that nonprofits are always on the look-out for capacity building support,” she said. “This is an opportunity to learn about the integration of app technology to build internal and external capacity.”

MilkCrate has previously built apps for the likes of Committee of Seventy, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and The Wharton School.
