After ringing in its one-year anniversary with a nomination, Modev’s VOICE Talks is officially a Webby Award winner.
VOICE Talks, which covers the latest in AI and voice technology in a monthly, hourlong talk show, won in the “Virtual & Remote: Technology” category in the 25th annual awards, which have previously been called the “internet’s highest honor.”
Arlington-based Modev’s show, which is hosted by Google Assistant’s Sofia Altuna, was one of five nominees in the category. In all, the Webbys received 13,500 entries for this year’s awards. The nominees were initially selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, but the final winner was chosen via community vote.
“This recognition is a true testament to the work and dedication our talented team of writers, producers, videographers, and marketers put into every episode of VOICE Talks,” said Pete Erickson, CEO of Modev, in a statement. “VOICE Talks was developed for our community of viewers, and we’re grateful for the support of the Google Assistant Product Partners team and all who have tuned in throughout the past year.”
Erickson told Technical.ly in April that the show was created after Modev, an events company, needed a new pursuit after the pandemic moved all events virtual. A little over a year after its launch, the show now has 140,000 subscribers and hopes to grow to 250,000 by the end of the year, as it was renewed for 10 episodes in 2021. Erickson also plans to host a VOICE Talks event in 2022 in Crystal City that he described as part technology, part festival.
But for now, the multi-segment show will continue covering voice software trends as the technology develops.
“Honorees like VOICE Talks are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, executive director of The Webby Awards.
The next episode of VOICE Talks will air June 24 at 2pm EST. Fans can watch it here.
