Last week, the final phase of the Industrial Track Trail, which will serve as Delaware’s contribution to the East Coast Greenway, broke ground. At completion, the seven-mile trail will connect Wilmington’s waterfront area with Old New Castle, providing a place for pedestrians and bikers to safely commute between the city and the county.
The project will be completed in partnership with the Delaware Department of Technology and New Castle County. It’s slated to launch in the summer of 2018.
Gov. Jack Markell called it a “critical segment to the 3,000-mile East Coast Greenway,” in his weekly video address. “That improves the quality of life while supporting healthier, more active lifestyles and cleaner forms of transportation.”
The trail will have two crossings, one on Boulden Boulevard and the other on the Christina River.
The firm hired to do the construction? Engineering firm Whitman, Requardt and Associates, the same firm that was tasked with the job to build Paoli Trail Connections across the border in Pennsylvania.
