Open Data Delaware‘s been doing some really cool and interesting things since former Governor Jack Markell signed the order that gave way to the Delaware Open Data Portal in January of 2016. The group hosts workshops in the winter and spring that lead up to what was once the National Day of Civic Hacking in June.
That official, national hackathon event has been moved, but Open Data Delaware is keeping the day for their own event. The 2017 Open Data Challenge Hackathon is an opportunity for teams to use data to create a solution for a social problem. The theme this year? “Access to Hope through Innovation.”
Here’s the thing: anyone can compete. You can compete, I can compete and that’s regardless of our skills. The recently constructed Open Data Challenge site says it best in a section dedicated specifically to who can compete in the Challenge.

“Our community is at it’s best when everyone can contribute. That’s true for Open Data Delaware as well. Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of skill level or skill set. There are certain skill sets that might be helpful – from design to management to content expertise to programming, but there is a place for everyone.”

The Open Data Challenge Hackathon runs from Friday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m. until Sunday, June 4, at 4:00 p.m.. You can come, listen to the problems presented by Open Data DE and join the team that has a problem you want to work on. This is an inclusive event from start to finish.
This is an entirely free event, but participants still need to register. Do that below.
