‘Mascaras and Mimosas’ aims to bring together women entrepreneurs

The networking series is holding its second event Sept. 25.

There’s a new meetup for women entrepreneurs in Delaware and it just had its first event. Mascaras and Mimosas aims to host four to six brunches a year.
Stefanie Roselle of social media firm Social Butterfly and Amber Shader of First and Little Children’s Boutique both felt the need to create a noncompetitive, supportive environment for those interested in networking.
“I was in corporate America for over 13 years and couldn’t find many events that spoke to female-owned businesses,” said co-organizer Shader. “There are definitely ones out there but they weren’t fitting my needs.”
The first event had a turnout of 100 attendees. The theme was Collaboration vs. Competition and it was held at the Christiana Hilton in Newark.
Tickets sold out for the last event and there was a waiting list, but there are no plans of finding a bigger space to hold more people. “We want to keep it small,” Roselle said.
Shader and Roselle were inspired by Boss Babe Academy. “The goal is 100 percent sharing and growing and building relationships as women entrepreneurs,” Roselle said. “I’d much rather refer my clients to a local woman-owned business over a franchise I don’t have a connection to.”
The event is digitally driven, with a hashtag to keep attendees engaged before, during and after. The idea is organic growth.


The next event is taking place at Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Christiana Hilton at 11 a.m. Tickets will go on sale in August. The panelists below (organizers are still waiting for a few confirmations) will tackle the topic of branding for individuals and businesses:

  • Bethany Keeth, owner of Gloss Salons
  • Traci Murphy, owner of Brandywine Buzz
  • Jane Clark, owner of Teakettica web design firm
