The City of Philadelphia has awarded nearly $300,000 to projects like developer camps, internship programs and youth STEM initiatives through its StartUp PHL “Call for Ideas” grants.
Now it’s looking for more projects to fund, this time focused on empowering youth and fighting poverty.
Apply by Sept. 11
The previous Call for Ideas grant rounds have focused on brain drain and inclusivity in the tech scene. This round feels inspired by two previous grantees: Coded By Kids, the youth coding education nonprofit geared toward inner-city children, and the University City Science Center’s FirstHand Program, which offers middle schoolers hands-on STEM experience.
Mayor Michael Nutter chose to visit Coded By Kids for the StartUp PHL announcement in May.
