Two years ago, the Philadelphia Police Department began posting surveillance videos of crimes like burglaries, robberies and assaults on Youtube.
More than 200 videos and 2.3 million views later, the Department says it has made 100 arrests from tips through its social media and Youtube efforts.
The department launched a few new channels for citizens to submit tips, we reported this summer, including via its website, text and an app. In the first few months of the Text-a-Tip initiative, police received about 600 tips.
We’d also be remiss not to mention that, especially recently, Youtube and Philly cops aren’t always a winning combination.
