Kembrel, the clothing retailer that had both ecommerce and brick and mortar stores, is now closed. The store’s Chestnut Street flagship held a closing sale and shut its doors today, according to a tweet. It will be replaced by handbag manufacturer Blue Claw, PhillyChitChat reported. Kembrel’s website also now displays a goodbye message.
Founded in 2011, Kembrel had two storefronts in the city: one at 12th and Locust Streets and one at 18th and Chestnut Streets. In December, it had plans to open a storefront in Wayne, according to local news reports, though it’s not clear if those plans came to fruition.
As recently as early October, Kembrel held a pop-up boutique with a New York City designer and cofounder Stephan Jacob spoke at a fashion tech event.
Kembrel cofounders Jacob and Cherif Habib did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Jacob is working on a new ecommerce startup in Salt Lake City, according to his LinkedIn.
