Students at the Jay Cooke Elementary School in North Philadelphia were particularly psyched about a school assembly on Wednesday morning: Amazon had come to school to drop off a donation of school supplies worth $10,000.
The Seattle-based ecommerce giant is making the rounds with at least 10 similar donations to schools around the country. Just on Tuesday the company made a similar donation to Grant Elementary in Trenton.
Office furniture, computer speakers, construction paper, notebooks and other staples (like actual staples) were among the items donated.

Mayor Jim Kenney was in attendence to receive the donation, and thanked Amazon giant for its generosity. Principal Tara Brown also expressed her gratitude.
“My teachers deserve this, and our students deserve this,” said Brown. “I cannot thank Amazon enough for their commitment to serving our youth.”

During the event, Amazon and the School District of Philadelphia announced a district-wide partnership to support STEM initiatives and robotics programs. The initial phase of the partnership will entail another $10,000 donation from Amazon in robotics kits and competition field kits for middle- and high-school programs.
