Why Curalate is hiring in Philly, New York and Seattle

In an effort to grow faster, Curalate is now hiring in three cities: Philadelphia, New York City and Seattle. The Center City visual analytics firm, which is nearing 40 employees, is looking for team members in all fields — software engineers, sales, marketing, client management and even recruiters —  for its offices.

Curalate has quietly had a Seattle office, led by VP of Engineering Jacob Edelstein, for a long time, said marketing director Brendan Lowry. The office is made up of three developers, including Edelstein, who all used to work at Microsoft. (Chief Technology Officer Nick Shiftan is also a former Microsoft staffer who left Seattle to start Curalate with CEO Apu Gupta.)

As for its three-person New York City office in First Round Capital’s Union Square outpost, it has historically been focused on sales but the company is now hiring for positions like product manager, software engineers and community manager.

What’s with the shift?

“…what you’re seeing here is a reflection of tremendous demand for Curalate and the number one growth constraint affecting high growth startups today – people,” Lowry wrote in an email. “As a result, we’re opportunistically adding people where we can.”

Gupta has spoken before on the difficulty of hiring quickly enough to keep up with the pace of growth. Hiring in several offices is one way to tackle that problem.

Curalate’s decision to hire recruiters in New York and Philadelphia is also worth noting. It feels like a milestone of sorts: in Philly, it’s larger companies like Leadnomics/50OnRed (collectively nearly 150 employees), Monetate (nearing 250 employees) and the publicly-traded MeetMe that have in-house recruiters.

In other Curalate hiring news, the company recently added Rich Reinish as its executive vice president of sales. Now based in Curalate’s Center City headquarters, Reinish used to run Eastern region sales for Silicon Valley cloud storage company Box.

With nearly 20 open positions listed, does that mean that Curalate has closed another round of funding? When asked, Lowry said he didn’t have anything to share at the moment.
