Among the group of companies trying to figure out how to deliver college education online — Coursera, Udacity, Baltimore’s own StraighterLine — is 2U.
Formerly known as 2Tor (the company changed its name in October), 2U is an education technology startup based in Landover in Prince George’s County that takes an alternative approach. Instead of offering massive open courses or individual, for-credit classes, 2U forms partnerships with universities nationwide and crafts for-credit, online degree programs in conjunction with each school, and then offers those degree programs to students worldwide via its web platform.
The latest university-partner with 2U is American University in Washington, D.C., reports the Baltimore Business Journal. On Tuesday, 2U and American launched a new master’s program in international relations.
