Shyp now serving Brooklyn from Industry City

Another startup — one that makes mailing packages ridiculously easy — moves into the 30-acre industrial campus in Sunset Park.

Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated the size of Industry City. It's 30 acres, according to the developers, not 40 (despite what Wikipedia says). (11/3/2014, 10:10 a.m.)

Shyp will come to your door, pick up whatever you need to ship, make a box that fits the item precisely and ship it using the most economical option, for $5 (plus the cost of postage). Founded in San Francisco, the company just opened up operations in Sunset Park, serving both Manhattan and Brooklyn.

It’s exclusively accessible through iOS right now.

“Industry City offers e-commerce startups such as Shyp the opportunity to be part of a unique community of innovation economy pioneers, where B2B creativity can incubate and grow,” Andrew Kimball, CEO of Industry City, said in a press release.

Industry City’s plan to be the next big hub for tech ventures (the next Navy Yard?) appears to be playing out. Car2Go also just landed there, and MakerBot has been building its 3D printers there for some time.

Shyp has raised a total of $12.1 million in two separate rounds, according to CrunchBase. It secured $10 million in July.

It signed a 10-year lease for 14,000 square feet at Industry City, with three full-time employees and five part-time, so far, according to Industry City reps.
