Penn rolls out online master’s degree in AI

For the second time in less than six months, the University of Pennsylvania is introducing an AI and engineering degree program, this time an online masters degree of science and engineering in artificial intelligence.

The recent addition of AI-focused degree programs will hopefully prepare students to integrate AI into companies of any size in an ethical and responsible way, Chris Callison-Burch told Technical.ly.

What EDA Tech Hubs can learn from the past

Coalitions in Baltimore and the Philadelphia region are competing for millions of dollars in funding from the the EDA Tech Hubs program, pulling together proposals that will advance their region’s tech and innovation capabilities.

A decade ago, a similar program focused energy efficiency was deemed as not being beneficial. The difference between the two is that the 2013 program was focused on experimental inventions, while the EDA Tech Hubs program looks at proven technologies.

News Incubator: What else to know today

•Today is the last fully funded day of the Affordable Connectivity Program. Starting in May there will be a partial benefit for families still enrolled in the program and whose ISPs chooses to stay in the program. [FCC/Technical.ly]

• Philadelphia ranked 4th among life sciences markets in the United States according to a report from Colliers. This ranking is based on VC funding, NIH funding, biomedical degree completions and real estate offerings.  [Colliers/Technical.ly]

•  AI drug development company BioPhy is partnering with Every Cure, a nonprofit developing an AI based drug repurposing platform. The orgs will work together to identify drug repurposing opportunities, focusing on clinical trials.  [BusinessWire/Technical.ly/Technical.ly]

• InductEV, which is building autonomous wireless chargers for electric vehicles, announced Weston LaBar as the company’s first chief logistics officer. LaBar will be based at InductEV’s new headquarters in California. [InductEV/Technical.ly]

• Former Spark Therapeutics chief technical officer filed a lawsuit against the company for sex discrimination. Cynthia Pussinen claims she was let go from the gene therapy company for reporting sexism. [Philly Biz Journal/Technical.ly]
