For 27 years, InformationWeek has been publishing a list of the top 100 companies and organizations that, in its view, are applying IT in meaningful ways with real impacts on business. The Brooklyn Public Library earned a spot on the list at No. 25. It was the only library listed this year.
In the analysis of this year’s results, InformationWeek writes:

You want virtual reality, big data analytics, Internet of Things, and mobile apps used in breakthrough ways? The Elite 100 companies are applying all these and more, in ways that will rewrite the rules of business.

“Brooklyn Public Library employs technology to make our operations more efficient and our services to patrons more personalized,” said Linda Johnson, its CEO, in a release. “As a result of our partnership with Tableau, BPL’s 60 branches are more responsive than ever to the needs of the communities they serve.”
According to the release, the library’s successful use of Tableau, which gives library staff more information about an individual branch’s borrowing tastes, informs stronger programming, displays and resources.
No other Brooklyn-based organizations were on this year’s list.
