Four students from Brooklyn International High School and their volunteer mentors put together a JavaScript version of Monopoly that they modified with notable Brooklyn streets at the latest student hackathon from ScriptEd. We covered the organization’s debut at Brooklyn International. It’s a nonprofit with a mission to show students that they don’t have to just use the Internet, they can also make it.

The Brooklyn students participated in the ScriptEd hackathon alongside their mentors. A total of 36 students and volunteers made it out on one of the most awful days for snow and cold so far this winter, from schools around New York City. They spent five hours building web products. Their challenge: “the grid.” They had to make a project that used a grid.

“At the Hackathon, our students demonstrate their creativity,” said ScriptEd Executive Director Maurya Couvares, “They have the ideas and the imagination to be drivers of innovation, but many of our students have never had the opportunity to learn computer science. Learning to program equips them with the skills and resources they need to pursue a technology career.”

A lot more of the flavor of the event can be taken in on their Storify page for the day, but here’s some content that jumped out at us:
