Magpie Sensing receives $75K from TEDCO for test with MD Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene

Health care analytics startup Magpie Sensing, which monitors the temperature of refrigerators used by doctors and medical researchers to keep reagents, human tissue samples and vaccines cold, has received $75,000 from the Maryland Technology Development Corporation.

A study released Thursday that analyzed some 340,000 cybersecurity jobs at 18,000 companies across the U.S. confirmed something we already know: Maryland, and Baltimore in particular, is a cybersecurity hub. Forbes magazine has named the Baltimore-Towson region fourth in its list of “America’s New Tech Hot Spots.” Washington, D.C., is listed number one. MD Innovation Initiative awards first 3 tech transfer grants totaling $300K to BOSS, JHU researchers

The Maryland Technology Development Corporation is bullish about tech transfer in the Baltimore region, so much so that it’s now raising a $50 million fund specifically for investments for technology-transfer companies. TEDCO’s other tech transfer program is the Maryland Innovation Initiative, which announced its first three funding awards totaling $299,678 on Wednesday.
