Several Patch.com news websites in the Baltimore region will be “going dark soon,” reports the Baltimore City Paper.
On Aug. 16, many editors and reporters employed by Patch.com, the franchise of hyperlocal news websites owned by AOL and in many small towns nationwide, were laid off, the casualties of a company-wide restructuring to make the chain of online news sites profitable by the end of 2013. Others were told they were staying on until Oct. 15.
According to the City Paper, the following Patch.com sites are ones that will probably be shutting down soon, if not swapping editors:
It appears that Patch.com news websites in Arbutus, Broadneck, Eldersburg, Essex-Middle River, Fallston, Glen Burnie, Hunt Valley-Cockeysville, North Baltimore, Perryville, and Pikesville will be changing hands or, more likely, going dark soon.
