Sure, streaming music is great but WXPN wants to give its audience more.
Following the success of the radio station’s streaming mobile apps, WXPN is now looking to build a new mobile app that gives its users streaming and archived audio, as well as access to the station’s most popular online features, including its concert calendar and its music blog The Key, said WXPN Program Director Bruce Warren, who is overseeing the project.
The new mobile app effort is a response to the idea that music is only one part of the WXPN experience, Warren said. He hopes it will be launched by January.
WXPN’s iOS app, which launched in 2009, has seen nearly 200,000 downloads, Warren said, while its new-ish Android app built by Fort Washington, Pa.-based Chariot Solutions has seen 4,000 downloads since its September launch.
