Cool talk alert: Brooklyn’s tech avant garde at WordHack Biennial this weekend

If at least one biennial isn't in your plans for this weekend, what are you even doing?

Poetry in code, Tinder with smells, apps for not looking at your phone. This Saturday, WordHack hosts an all-day event followed by drinks and DJs and we think it’s worth checking out.

“It’s the 2-year anniversary of WordHack, and we wanted to do something a little bigger than usual so people could spend some more time with each other, and so people could travel from out of town and have something to do all day,” said cofounder Todd Anderson.
WordHack has been showcasing the interesting, techy, poetic and weird every month for the past two years. We featured Anderson at one of this reporter’s first events, in this article on code poetry.
Although the event, which the organizers are calling the WordHack Biennial, is taking place at Babycastles, in Manhattan, it features a roster of Brooklyn artists, including many who’ve been covered by Technical.ly Brooklyn.
Ekene Ijeoma, who created the Look Up app earlier this month, will talk, as will Sam Lavigne, of Useless Press, who was covered just yesterday for his work on thinking about his own death or shopping. Caroline Sinders, who has contributed to Technical.ly with a piece about making tech more empathetic, will be there, too.
Here’s a full list of speakers:

Talks will run from 1-6 p.m., followed by a two-hour break for dinner, and then DJs will spin from 8 p.m. till whenever. I’ll be there, so if you want to say hi, shoot me a tweet!
