Coming up at East Williamsburg’s Transfer Gallery is a show on virtual reality and how we are moving into an increasingly visual future.

Behind White Shadows” by artist Rosa Menkman opens Sept. 9 with a reception that night (Saturday) at the gallery.

“‘Behind White Shadows’ casts light on some of the problematic issues surrounding the emergence of 3D technologies, asking questions such as: what do the hegemonic conventions of sight obscure? And: who gets to move beyond the frame and decide the perspective?” the gallery asks.

The show will feature immersive VR projections that trace a progression of images throughout history.

Menkman is a Dutch artist whose work centers on accidents of visual processing (like glitches), which speak to the question of who builds what we see and what their worldview is.
