While January 1st marked the “official” New Year celebration, Event Highlights considers this year the first week of 2021. Our calendar has finally recovered from the holiday break and this week, it’s packed to the brim.

This week: Philly.rb has RedSnake tickets, Starbucks has never been so useful, and what would George Washington do?

What would the Founding Fathers think of Facebook? – Join our very own Christopher Wink along with New York Times’ first social media editor Jennifer Preston and others in a panel that explores what our Founding Fathers would have thought about today’s social media tools. We can only imagine what Ben Franklin would have done with Facebook.  Thursday. 6 p.m. Old City. RSVP.

Web Start Women Startluck – Web Start Women, the group dedicated to helping women programmers, is holding its first event of 2012. Join WSW for an informal meet up at the South Street Starbucks to talk about projects, ideas and inspiration. Wednesday. 6 p.m. South Street. RSVP.

Philly.rb January 2012 Meeting – We normally show love to Philly.rb, but this time it’s special. Come to the Ruby user groups meeting to get your tickets to RedSnakePhilly, the joint Ruby/Python event held by Philly.rb and the Python Users Group. RedSnakePhilly is old school, only giving out physical numbered tickets to prevent no-shows. Tuesday. 6:00 p.m. University City. RSVP
