From the bottom of our hearts we thank you, Philadelphia.
Thanks for volunteering time to organize an event, thank you for supporting the week through sponsorship, and thank for heading out to multiple events throughout the week. But mostly, thank you for making the first ever Philly Tech Week live up to its mission of collaboration across various parts of our city’s diverse technology community.
During the week, members of city government pushed for more transparency through open data, the city’s entrepreneurial community helped launch new companies while connecting our city’s technology talent with growing companies and artists got down at chiptune concerts and showed off their augmented reality skills. Most importantly however, is that people who care about the future of technology in Philadelphia got together to make our city a better place.
And when the city’s technology community got together for 60 PTW events, folks took notice. Some of the Philly Tech Week press includes the Inquirer, the Daily News and the Philadelphia Business Journal. Not to mention the robust #phillytechweek hashtag on Twitter.
After the jump, check out some of the photos, blog posts and videos that captured Philly Tech Week:
- Over 120 people came to WHYY to see the launch of Open Data Philly. The site, developed by Azavea, is a central hub of many of the city’s data sets.
- WHYY and Newsworks recorded The Hacktory smashing printers.
- IDGA showed off 15(!) local video game studios.
- At BarCamp NewsInnovation, journalists from all over gathered as hackers made use of the datasets on Open Data Philly including OPA Liberator, a site that allows property records to be looked up by name, a feature previously unavailable on the city’s website.
- The Inquirer covered numerous parts of PTW, including Monetate’s Open Source Prize, Switch Philly and a roundup of the entire week.
- The Daily News previewed the week on Monday.
Of course, we couldn’t begin to recap the 60 events in just one post, so look out for additional followups on Technically Philly throughout the week. If you were an event organizer and would like to write a recap of your event for publication on Technically Philly, please send 100 to 400 word post to info@technicallyphilly.com and include a photo.
