Startup for Grownups: new meetup group focuses on ‘mature’ entrepreneurs

In a community where high schoolers are pitching at Startup Weekend and venture capital firms are setting up a “Dorm Room Fund,” it can feel like you’ll never be young enough for the scene. But a new local meetup group aims to turn that around. It wants to take being “older” and own it.

Startups for Grownups, founded by marketing entrepreneur Mark Schneider, is a group that caters towards “mature” entrepreneurs. We’re talking 40 to 60 years old (Schneider has coined the term “Boomerpreneurs”), though Schneider says some 30-somethings have joined the group.

Schneider says it’s a way for older entrepreneurs to create their own community. The group has already held two meetups, most recently at Center City coworking spot Seed Philly.

We guess this group would have some things to say about this recent Twitter discussion between community members Yuriy Porytko, Anthony Durante and others: Do baby boomers as a generation just have more of a “can do” mentality than the younger generation of today?
