Skylight Coworking: new coworking space opens in Phoenixville

Chester County freelancers, here’s a new coworking space for you.

Phoenixville’s Skylight Coworking, founded by communications specialist Shannon Coghlan, will have its grand opening this Friday, Nov. 2.

Coghlan says she’s opening the space as a bet on Phoenixville’s own growing downtown revitalization (if you don’t believe it, then you haven’t seen the town’s Main Street or been to their Firebird Festival).

While Philly has its fair share of coworking spots, the suburbs have been a less crowded space, with healthy lifestyle incubator Novotorium in Bucks County and startup-focused incubators in Chester County office buildings. (The parents-focused coworking spot from Aliza Schlabach is still seeking space and could end up in the northwest section of the city anyway.)

Housed in a 200-year-old building in downtown Phoenixville, Skylight Coworking has been in soft-launch mode since mid-October and already has six members. Rates range from $25/day for drop-ins to $275/month for full-time members.

Will Skylight flourish or fail?

Ultimately, it’ll be a question of community and what Coghlan’s intentions are. In her favor is a years-long discussion of the need for coworking for suburban independents and that she has taken an interest in Indy Hall, that hallowed Old City temple of coworking. We’ll find out if she was listening.
